23 April 2007: The government is seeking to boost
the use of generic medicines by revamping the way doctors issue prescriptions.The
plan is part of efforts to help curb snowballing medical bills by making
patent-free pharmaceutical products more readily available.

28 March 2007: Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, which
recently acquired Medicamenta AS of the Czech Republic, is planning to
launch 15 new generic drugs in Europe over the next 2-3 years, the Economic
Times reported citing Glenn Saldanha, chief executive and managing director
of Glenmark.

in 2005 at the slowest pace in six years thanks in part to a greater reliance
on generic drugs. Spending went up 6.9 percent in 2005, approaching $2
trillion. That represents about $1 out of every $6 spent in the U.S.,
compared with about $1 out of every $10 in the early 1980s.
Generic
drugs could save NHS 'millions'
28 December 2006: The new figures, released today
by the Department of Health, show that around £85million could be
saved a year if Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) prescribed generic versions
of the drugs pravastatin and simvastatin, instead of their branded counterparts.
